Echoes of Connection was founded with a simple, urgent conviction: that identity is not a fixed destination but a living, breathing conversation between the past and the present. Too often, that conversation is interrupted — by displacement, by the relentless pace of modern life, or by systems that ask people to leave parts of themselves at the door.
This work exists to interrupt that interruption. To create spaces where people can slow down, look inward, reach back, and move forward — not despite their stories, but because of them.
The founder brings together expertise in social work, counselling, community development, and facilitation, grounded in years of direct work with individuals and organisations navigating questions of identity, belonging, and cultural continuity. This work is not theoretical. It is personal.
What guides this work
Echoes of Connection is guided by a deep respect for the diversity of human experience — for the many forms identity takes, and the many ways belonging can be found, lost, and reclaimed. Cultural knowledge is held here as living wisdom, not museum artefact.
Every program and engagement is designed to be emotionally safe, culturally informed, and grounded in personal development — supporting growth, reflection, and self-discovery. This is a space for people who are ready to explore and grow.
Values
- Story is sacred. Every person's narrative carries meaning, wisdom, and worth. All stories — especially the complicated ones — are approached with reverence.
- Culture is living. The dynamic, evolving nature of cultural identity is honoured here, resisting any framing that flattens or freezes it.
- Growth is possible. There is a deep belief in the capacity of human beings — and human systems — to change. Growth is not always linear, but it is always possible.
- Power matters. The ways that power, privilege, and systemic inequity shape who gets to belong are acknowledged — and this work is oriented toward change.
- Relationships are the work. Lasting transformation happens inside authentic relationships — with ourselves, each other, and the communities we belong to.
Commitment to cultural safety
Cultural safety is practised and modelled in everything Echoes of Connection does. This means acknowledging the ongoing impacts of colonisation, displacement, and systemic racism; centring the voices and knowledge of those most affected; and a commitment to continued learning and accountability.
